Public Opinions Study Group Session on Vision 2040 and UN SDGs

On 27th July 2016, Public Opinions organized a Study Group Session in which 16 young people from different sectors participated. It was held at Sheraton Kampala Hotel. The Youth discussed Challenges and possible interventions towards attainment of Uganda Vision 2040 and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The Youth unanimously agreed that the vision 2040 is not known by the people of Uganda and it was agreed that government need to do much more information dissemination and public awareness if the Uganda Vision 2040 is to be attained. It was also agreed that very few people and few leaders in Uganda understand the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals which were adopted in September 2015 during the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The participants agreed as follow;

  • Government should adopt better strategies of fighting corruption in local councils and in the implementation of government projects
  • Merits must be considered in employment

  • Government should consider supporting rural cooperatives especially those in Agriculture
  • Government should give incentives to investors and companies involved in agricultural production
  • Government should invest more in vocational training in communities
  • Government should Regulate Seed production and distribution
  • There is need for focused and tailor-made information dissemination and public awareness of Uganda Vision 2040 and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
  • Government should boost private sector participation in the implementation of Uganda Vision 2040 and UN SDGs
  • Government should consider levying more taxes on goods coming abroad but are manufactured in Uganda. This will boost local production
  • There is need to invest more in science and innovation
  • There is need for government to set key performance indicators in each and every government agency and as well as in each government projects being implemented.
  • Government need to set standards and basic practices in manufacturing sectors so that our products can compete with other products within and outside Uganda
